Mastitis
Holistic approaches to clogged milk ducts or infection that can develop.
You may notice certain places on the breast getting hot or red or sore or red streaks. Follow these easy techniques and end it before it takes hold if possible!
Take a hot shower with both arms up...get the lymph glands moving, that will help.
Place lavender essential oil on the spot and then get in the shower or then put hot wet compress on the breast and then when it cools wear a dry hot compress. You can make one with a cotton sock filled with uncooked rice and microwave for 20-30 seconds (careful ...it can be very hot). Usually this stays hot for 20 minutes. When you breastfeed the baby feed on that side first and massage the breast where they are breastfeeding and let them suck the clog out. Repeat as needed. Usually you get clogged milk ducts when you are tired...so get some help with household chores or just plain getting some sleep!
Chris Deatheridege, ND suggests mixing dropperful of Echinacea tincture, 3 cloves of raw garlic, 4-6 oz. of carrot juice blend and drinking every 2 hours. (2), See http://www.bflrc.com/newman/breastfeeding/gentviol.htm
Homeopathics (take 2 pelllets of 30C and wait...if it feels better, and then worse the same exact way take another dose....up to 3 or 4 doses)
the following suggestions are from a homeopath in the UK:
BELLADONNA
Mastitis
Belladonna may be called for where your breasts are red-streaked from the centre to the circumference, inflamed, hot, tender, engorged and throbbing with pain. Your milk supply is over-abundant and you are emotionally excited with a high fever with dry, burning heat, red face and dilated pupils. Lying down makes you feel better.
PULSATILLA
Mastitis
Use this remedy where your milk supply is low, your breasts are swollen and tense and the milk itself is thin, watery and acrid. Pains change location, and extend to the chest and down the back. You find yourself weeping while you nurse."
Flower Remedy
Take Olive if due to exhaustion (put 2 drops in every cup of water you drink)
